One of the most important SDYCSF grants is to the Mission Bay Aquatic Center Summer Sailing Program (MBAC). Your donations, combined with other charity support over the years, have made this a truly successful program for kids who otherwise would not be able to participate!
In all, MBAC was granted a total of 21 weeks of sailing for 15 at-risk and under-served San Diego Youth.
The grant also helped support the development of their Classroom to Coast Program last fall, where sailing instructors from MBAC visited a school in an under-served community and taught sailing as STEM lessons designed to inspire interest in STEM and STEM careers through the sport of sailing. Forty-nine students participated in four modules from the US Sailing Reach curriculum, which culminated in a field trip to Mission Bay to learn to sail and apply the real world skills they learned. Students showed an improvement in STEM skills, knowledge, and interest in pre- and post-testing. Several of the students who benefited from the program and developed an interest in sailing continued their development in two weeks of sailing camp this summer as part of the SDYCSF grant. We are proud to suppor this youth outreach and could not have done it without the continued support of our donors. Thank you!
